Skil 2352 Rotary Cutter
Dear Folks,This is a right-nice little tool.I've only had mine for less than a month now but I really like it.So far, I've only used mine for cutting cardboard.I'm an eBay seller.I'll re-size shipping cartons and I'll cut cardboard panels to use to reinforce the inside of a shipping carton for a heavy item. This Skil 2352 tool is just right for me.It makes the job of cutting cardboard go very fast and effortless.Straight cuts is all I need to make.I bought the Black & Decker SZ360 Power Scissors along with this Skil 2352.They'll do curves if and when I ever need that capability. But they're obviously not as strong as this Skil tool. But I added them to my order because they were so affordable (Low-cost) and with free shipping, they just went along for the ride. And I do really like the B&D SZ360 for just paper. Two very nice little tools. Each with its own special qualities.Charles SmithWestern Maryland================================================Update13 January 2012Skil 2352 Rotary Cutter================================================I have been using this little power tool now for over two months.I wouldn't want to be without it.I ship stuff USPS and UPS.Stuff that I sell over eBay.The stuff that I sell and ship usually goes out in boxes.I keep this little Skil 2352 Rotary Cutter right there at my work table.Right there at my shipping table. There's where I have my shipping scales and my "This Side Up" labels and all those sorts of things. This Skil 2352 Rotary Cutter folks is one fine little power tool.I use it every day and I love it.I think that it was only about thirty-some dollars when I bought it and what a good little investment it has turned out to be.As I figured that it would.Battery run-time is incredible. It just cuts and cuts and cuts.================================================C SmithI would buy another one of this same model without even bothering to shop around.=========================================================================UPDATE 18 AUG 2013 -=========================Well.I just carefully re-read what I typed in my original review dated 16 Nov 2011.And what I typed in my update dated 13 Jan 2012.Every word still holds true here today 18 Aug 2013.After 2 3/4 years of using this thing.1) Wonderful tool.2) Wouldn't want to be without it.If I remember right, I think I read more than once that the blade is self-sharpening.Must be true. She cuts effortlessly, slick as a whistle, even after 2 years & 9 months of regular use.Bought this Skil power tool back on 4 Nov 2011.And what a battery this thing has!It works hard and it only needs re-charged but very infrequently.Great tool.Wonderful tool.I sure wouldn't want to be without it.Skil is like a few other big tool companies.Built their reputation on quality. Then compromised that a little bit to really go big-time in terms of volume of sales. Then once they really had the market by the tail, they again went back to focusing on the best-quality power tools you can buy.Black & Decker's another good example of that very same strategy. These men & women are nobody's dummies, folks.Charles SmithAllegany County MD

Gets a C- for cutting foam board
This is definitely a nifty tool for some purposes, especially for the price. But my vexing problem is cutting foam board. If you just need to cut foam board for your kids' elementary school projects, then go for it. It cuts, and it's safe to use.The problems arise when you need a precise cut for more than just casual hobby use. Foam is tricky, no matter how you do it: getting a perfect line without damaging the board takes care.In my case, I carefully measured and penciled in the cutting lines. Then I laid a high-quality aluminum T-square down on the foam board, and used that to rest the Skil cutter against as I moved forward on the cut. That should work really well, but the Skil Multi-Cutter has a few problems with that. Overall, the thing is tricky to steer. You really have to practice many times, and then you have to hold it JUST SO so it a) follows the T-square edge, and b) doesn't get bogged down in the foam board. Bogging down on the foam board thickness is probably the biggest issue they need to address: you find yourself applying lots of force.Even then, I never get a perfect cut like you can with an Exacto knife and a little skill. The edges are a tiny bit rough (oddly, it seems to very slightly "chew" the paper part of the foam board), and you have to be very careful or it will leave a very fine dented line the entire length of your cut, which will remain on the part of your foam board you intend to use. (This can be avoided, but again it ain't easy.)This is a great concept, which probably could be perfected if they just designed the "jaw" a little bigger or more flexible to accommodate something the thickness of foam board.

Five Years Later (Update)
FIVE YEARS LATER: Original battery for both of mine. No charging problems and they're always ready to go. One of the units will need a new blade soon. Surprisingly, it is the unit I use for fabric cutting; the one used for cardboard, tile and everything else that will fit in the slot is still sharp enough. I love the clean cuts these make. These are worth the money. I am as happy with them today as I was when I first got them. I have also given a couple as gifts to each of my exes. (They may be ex, but they're still nice guys and good friends.) Oh, yeah: the B & D scissors mentioned below hit the trash years ago.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I originally bought this to cut up boxes for recycling and the multi-cutter does a great job with that. I already owned Black and Decker Electric Scissors and found them too limited although they are advertised to cut many of the same materials that the Skil Multi-Cutter Skil 2352-01 3.6-Volt Lithium-Ion Multi-Cutter is advertised for. The Skil is not a fast miniature circular blade like I had expected, but don't let the slower speed fool you. This cutter cuts open plastic packaging, reduces all but the very thickest cardboard boxes to easily recycled hunks, trims the bottoms of vinyl vertical blinds evenly and without rough cut marks as are left by the Black and Decker scissorsBlack & Decker SZ360 3.6-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Power Scissors. One reviewer expressed disatisfaction with their use of the multi-cutter on fabric, so I had figured they wouldn't work well for that. Well, today I thought, "Why not?" and was overjoyed to discover they excel in cutting out cloth. The fabric I was using was a heavier cotton with a crinkle texture. It has always been a pain to cut with regular scissors and the Black and Decker electric scissors wouldn't cut 3 inches without stopping from fabric stuck between the blades (where it would then eat up the edge of the fabric!) The Skil cutter powered through the material like a hot knife through butter and was easy to maneuver around both inside curves and outside curvers. The blade design allow cutting even close to pins. So, now I'm ordering a second multi-cutter. Then I'll have one for around-the-house tasks and one dedicated to fabric cutting for sewing. The Lithium-Ion battery means they are ready to go when I am, not always needing charging like the Black and Decker scissors, which are Ni-Cad.Bottom Line: Skip the B&D Electric Scissors and buy the Skil multi-cutter. It is truly worth the cost difference.
