How do I set the correct channel for a timed recording? There is no choice as to which channel on the screen. I'm technologically challenged too.

You should set the channel by choosing it on your cable box. The Funai does not have a tuner of it's own and must rely on the cable box tuner to be set to the channel needed. The Funai should be on Channel 3 or 4, whichever your area requires.

Will this funai copy my old vhs tapes to dvd? Also, can it record a tv show onto a vhs tape.

Yes, it can record a tv show onto a vhs tape as I do that all the time. You just have to be sure it is set on the channel of the show you are taping. I don't think you can copy a vhs tape to dvd but am not sure. I couldn't find any instructions in the book that comes with it.

no---you will need a device to hook from dvd out to vhs in to do so. the same works vhs to dvd--due to copy guard on both. just browse for copy guard remover i am sure you will find one.
